Overview

By engaging in this assignment, you will begin to identify major leadership themes that will help you lead effectively wherever God has planted you. After reading through the 19 chapters of the O.T. and the 14 chapters dedicated to the N.T in the Forrest/Roden text, you will provide a concise summary of 3 major themes per testament. Whole idea of a theme is that it is repeated…. not just found in one place or one book.  If you identify one person, you are describing an example.  An example is fine to start the conversation…but where/by whom is this idea repeated and thus it is not just an example but a theme (more compelling if more than one person demonstrates it). Summarize each theme but more importantly provide an analysis identifying the reasons why each theme is especially important to you or to our generation in regards to practicing Godly leadership no matter the context of one’s vocation or location

Instructions

You will submit two (2) papers pertaining to the major leadership themes stemming from the Forrest/Roden textbook reading assignments. The OT paper is due in Week 3 and the NT paper is due in Week 5.  Each paper must contain a title page, 1-page introduction, a minimum 3-page summary and analyses of the three leadership themes, and a 1-page conclusion and bibliography/reference page.  The paper should be submitted in a Word document and must be in the style format pertaining to the student’s degree program.

Metacognitive skills allow students to become aware of their own learning process and choose among various cognitive strategies that will allow them to be self-regulated learners. One such cognitive skill is modeling for students how to effectively problem solve. You will model this cognitive tool by using the IDEAL problem-solving strategy found in Chapter 6.5: Approaches to Teaching Thinking.​

Bobby is a student in your fifth grade class with autism. Bobby is extremely bright and can fully engage in assignments with much independence, except activities that involve group work. In most instances, he has difficulty working with others and tends to get angry when students don’t listen to him. Often times, you find him in the corner of the room pouting.

• Using the IDEAL strategy, develop a possible solution to this problem. Describe your solution and how you employed the IDEAL strategy, clearly listing the five steps.
  
• Reflecting on the IDEAL strategy, did you find the process helpful in solving a particular classroom dilemma? Why or why not? 

Imagine that you have the perfect teaching job (you are teaching the grade level and content that you desire). Describe how you might teach the IDEAL strategy to your own students. Why would doing so be beneficial? What might reasonably go wrong?,

Chapter 7 of our textbook describes how technology continues to be a strong presence in our classrooms, especially with e-learning. Schools are finding that technology has provided teachers with the ability to individualize instruction; therefore, it can be a great learning tool to enhance instruction and motivate students. As future educators, you will be expected to integrate the use of technology into your classroom lessons. Many schools are turning to blended learning classrooms in which students can learn in both face-to-face and online formats.

In a two- to three-page paper (not including title and reference pages), address these conditions:

• Outline the different types of blended learning. 
  
• Explain which theories inform blended learning.
  
• Identify the advantages and disadvantages of blended learning. 
  
• Use at least three scholarly sources, in addition to the textbook, to support your response. You may cite web articles, peer-reviewed scholarly articles, your own experience, and/or interviews with classroom teachers. 
  
• Explain how blended learning is changing your role as an educator. 
  
• Select two of the following Webtools: Edmodo, Twitter, Facebook, Storybird, Voicethread, Google Docs, Diigo, or TodaysMeet. Conduct an internet search to find out more about these Webtools and discuss how you might use your selected Webtools in the classroom to create your blended learning environment.

Be sure to provide an introduction and conclusion to your paper and properly cite and reference your sources using APA format.

Watch a movie about teaching, such as “Freedom Writers”, “Dead Poet’s Society”, “Lean on Me”, or “Stand and Deliver”. The following are clips for each movie to help you decide which movie you would like to watch:

Then answer the following questions:

• Summarize the movie you selected to watch and discuss ways in which the teacher motivated his/her students. Using Chapter 8 of our text, describe the motivational theory employed for each of the strategies you listed.
  
• How did satisfying Maslow’s hierarchy of needs impact student learning in your selected movie?
  
• How did the teacher in your selected movie display characteristics of a humanistic teacher? Be specific by providing examples and connecting your response to the text.
  
• Describe the ideal learning environment for you and explain how it will increase your motivation and ability to learn. What obstacles would hinder the creation of your ideal learning environment?

Why is it you can recall a favorite childhood memory, but might not be able to remember what you did the day before? Reflect on the reasons why you are able to remember some things and not others by answering the following questions. Be sure to use Chapter 7 of our text to provide evidence and support for your response.

• Compare and contrast sensory memory, short-term memory, and long-term memory using school-based examples.
• What works best for you when required to commit facts to memory for both the short-term and long-term?
• Knowing how memory works, how will this impact your instruction? How will you help students to retain and retrieve the information they need to know? Provide a specific strategy that you would utilize in your classroom to ensure that the content makes a lasting impression and is secured in long-term memory.
