Personal Data Tracking Assignment

Instructions:

1.  Download a walking/running app onto your mobile device (e.g. MapMyWalk is a free option).  It must include the following features:

  • A map that outlines your route
  • Total distance walked/jogged
  • Duration of walk/jog (time)
  • Date of activity

* If you do not have access to technology that supports apps & GPS tracking, please contact your professor during the drop/add period of the course.

2.  You will need to wear your device & record every activity included this project. 

Please do not upload maps with this project.  Students may be randomly selected to verify workouts after submitting their project.  Failure to provide requested evidence including date, distance, duration, & a map of the route will result in a grade of zero (0) being recorded for the project.  In this instance, students may also be subject to the provisions of the Code of Academic Integrity.  If you do not have proof of an activity, do not include it on your project.

  3.  Students will participate in a minimum of 25 sessions of walking/jogging/running over a five week period.  If you participate in multiple sessions per day you must wait a minimum of 20 minutes between activities before retesting your pre-exercise HR.  Required information (below) will be typed & reported on the data log provided.

  • Date of Activity
  • Type of activity (walk, jog, run or combination)
  • Pre-exercise heart rate (RHR)
  • Immediate post-exercise heart rate
  • Distance of walk/jog/run in miles
  • Time/Duration of walk/jog/run recorded in minutes   * Activity must be over 10 minutes in duration to be included
  • Route/Venue

* One of the project objectives is for your workouts to be consistent/daily to improve performance, and reinforce skills for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.  If you can not complete the activity slots provided weekly, you may record your first 7 sessions in Week 1 (no matter when they were performed), your second 7 sessions in Week 2 etc. so that you do not lose points.  Please do not alter the data log by adding or subtracting slots.

3.  Class Attendance Activities may be used toward this project.  The Rockport Fitness Test & 5K extra credit may not be included.

4.  Complete reflection questions:

             1) What type of activity did you choose most frequently & why?

             2) What factors helped you to complete your sessions?

             3) What factors hindered you from completing your sessions?

             4) What has your personal data/results shown you? Where do you go from here?                         

*For maximum points make sure your answers are in-depth, and relate to course content.

5.  ATTACH YOUR REFLECTION QUESTIONS TO YOUR LOG, AND SUBMIT VIA THE D2L DROPBOX.   *Logs must be typed. Handwritten logs will not be accepted.

* Be aware that if you are working in a group to complete projects/assignments, that the data you collect, analyze, and report MUST be your own, or you will be subject to the provisions of the Code of Academic Integrity.
