Overview

In this assignment, you will have the opportunity to develop a simulation model for a tax preparation service using the ExtendSim software.

Instructions

TurtleTax, an income tax preparation company, receives an average of 40 requests for tax preparations per week. Through statistical analysis, the company has been able to determine that the time between two consecutive requests arriving to the process is adequately described by an exponential distribution. 

One team handles the requests and completes, on average, 40 requests per week. The requests are handled FIFO. It can also be assumed that requests are not withdrawn and that a week consists of 40 working hours. 

Since 40 requests arrive per week, the average time between arrivals is 1 hour (40/40). Since the team is able to complete 30 requests in a week, the average processing time per request is 1.3 hours (40/30). 

The team consist of three team members. Each member earns $25.00 per hour. The tax return costs .

Complete the following steps:

1. Build an ExtendSim simulation model.
2. Include random processing times in the model.
3. Add a second tax team (a duplicate of the first) into the model. 
4. Add resources to the model.
5. Customize the animation of the model.
6. Calculate activity costs in the model.
7. Conduct a cycle analysis.

Reflect upon your experience by writing a reflection paper. Your document should meet the following criteria:

• Simulation models and charts in appendices
• At least 4 pages excluding the title page, abstract, appendices of models and charts, and reference page
• APA Style
• At least 2 citations
• Acceptable citations include scholarly articles

ExtendSim DE Software Installation Instructions

In this course, you will be using the trial version of ExtendSim DE, simulation software. The

trial version is good for 20 days so do not activate it until you need to use it. Use the following

link to complete the steps below: (See Resources section for link)

• Create an ExtendSim account using your Liberty University email address. Choose “Using ExtendSim DE in a university course”.
• Read the Getting Started, System Requirements, and Licensing Information prior to downloading. • Download the ExtendSim DE software.
• Install the ExtendSim DE software. It is good for 20 days so do not activate it until you need to use it.
• Get help, if needed, from ExtendSim Support. Do not contact the Liberty University helpdesk regarding ExtendSim software. Liberty University does not support this software.
