For the final paper you will write a clear, detailed, organized, focused essay that analyzes three (3) stories (no more than 3) from what has been posted on Blackboard in which you interpret—explain the significance or ‘meaning’ of—ONE theme, idea, problem, character or characters from your point of view.
Some themes for this paper might include: immigration or displacement issues, the family, intimacy, secrets and/or lies, identity, etc. Or, you may choose to analyze and reveal the significance of a character or characters in each of the three short stories.
Be sure to make your argument clear from the start. Your argument must be supported with evidence from the text(s), important details from the stories that show your reader how you arrived at your position. Since this is a 6 to 8 page paper, this means your analysis and discussion of the stories you’ve decided to analyze, should be detailed and specific, your ideas should be clearly and consistently developed. You should also show how the details or incidents or character descriptions support your argument and quote from the texts. You may also summarize from each text.
However do not mistake summary for analysis. Requirements for your final essay which is also your final exam: – Your essay must have the length of 6 – 8 pages including the works cited page. – It must be typed and double spaced with the standard size font of 12-point Times New Roman – Your margins should be 1 inch around each page – Plagiarism—presenting the writing of others as your own or using another person’s words or ideas without giving them credit—is a serious academic offense and may result in failure of this essay.
Contextually make sure you do the following:
– Discuss how the short story genre affected your thesis choice. Would you have chosen the same thesis if you were discussing three novels?
– If one of the short stories you chose is a translation, discuss how this may have affected your analysis of that particular short story.
– Remember this course is about short fiction. That distinction should be made somewhere in your analysis of the stories you’ve chosen to develop your theses. – Proofread your essay.
– Make sure you follow MLA standards for your essay. This includes the works cited page. I will take points off if this is not corrected since it may interfere with understanding your argument.
– You must quote from and refer to the texts you use to support your main idea. – Label your essay, Essay 2 Final, and write the date it is due.
I WILL ATTACH THE STORIES WHICH YOU NEED TO USE FOR THIS PAPER. ALSO PLEASE USE ONLY THOSE STORIES THAT I ATTACHED IN THIS ORDER
