For this assignment, you will analyze and evaluate critically a movie or television show (single show or single movie) that examines interpersonal dynamics displayed in the movie. Please cover at least two chapters. The movie is Titanic.
Do not pick any animated programs or movies or anything from science fiction. This assignment works best on films that depict life in realistic ways.
Your paper should be no longer than 4-5 pages (one-inch margins and 10 or 12 pt. type), so be concise and get to the point.
Use correct citation style (either MLA or APA).
You’ll use citations to point to relevant concepts in the book or other course materials. But most of your citations should come from your text.
Keep in mind that I’m not grading you on your description of the show, but rather your ability to analyze the show through the lens of what you have learned in class thus far.
In the introduction, briefly describe media artifact—very briefly. Assume that I’m going to view it. Preview the relevant concepts that you’ll be covering and use those concepts to create an organizational structure for the paper. Again, keep the concepts up front, not a description of the show.

In the body of the paper, isolate the most significant course concepts that are on display in this show. Describe the show just enough so I understand how the concept applies. Here are some things to think about to help guide you (but you are certainly not limited to these questions):
Is there something about the character’s appearance that prompts analysis?
Are the character’s behavior and relationships consistent with chapters on family, friendship, or romantic relationships? If so, how so? If not, how not?
Consider the relationships between characters. Can you discuss the conflict style, self perception, interaction, self-disclosure, etc?
Consider the verbal styles on display and language used. Is it consistent with what you learned in the text?
Consider the non-verbal elements (other than appearance). Are they consistent with what you have learned in the text?
If someone were to arrive here from another culture, what would they assume about interpersonal relationships in our culture based upon what they have viewed in this program.
