The annotated bibliography is a research tool that helps you organize your material in preparation for writing a long paper. It is a list of resources, very similar to a works cited, but each resource is followed by at least 200 words of summary and reflection. Structure each entry into 2 paragraphs: Paragraph 1=Summary (B) and Paragraph 2=Evaluation (C + D). EACH source must include:
- Bibliographic information in MLA format (see PA Ch. 10 or Purdue OWL website). Place your sources in alphabetical order based on the author’s last name.
- A 3+-sentence summary of the source that begins in this format: [“Article Title,”] by [author’s full name + relevant credentials], [verb] that….
Include any main ideas and relevant examples that you might want to include in your paper. - An evaluation of the source’s credibility, based on the most relevant criteria from the CRAAP principles (Currency, Relevance, Authority, Accuracy, Purpose). For example, how reliable is the source? Is the source biased or objective? What is the goal of the source? How does this source connect to other sources in your list?
- An evaluation of how you will use the source for your paper. How is this source useful to your topic or main idea?
