TASK INSTRUCTIONS
Find an example of a project case study that is not in your text book. You can do this by searching the
internet and/or reading the literature. You may also use an example of a case study from real life
experience.
The case study must describe the project in detail (as you’ll see below) from beginning to end and
must be a bona fide study, not some advertising blurb for a product or a consulting approach.
The case needs to demonstrate the importance of good planning processes that led to success or
failure of the project.
Write a report in which you:
• Identify the common aspects of planning that the project displays, including reference to
resource identification, allocation and management. Compare these aspects with reference to
the literature.
• Analyse any outliers (uncommon or unusual planning activities) from the case study that
might show attributes that other activities don’t. Critically evaluate this unusual activity with
reference to the literature.
• Discuss anything missing in the case study, from the point of view of planning, that you would
have included had you been the author. Justify your answer with reference to the literature.
• Examine what this case tells us about the role of planning in project management.
• Summarise your overall analysis.
