Research Paper #1 Assignment Sheet

ILLUSION: The Glass Menagerie

WRITING PROMPT

All three of the main characters in the play (Amanda, Tom and Laura) are trapped in various levels of illusion. In your opinion, who is the most trapped in illusion?

Required Research

This research paper requires a minimum of FIVE (5) outside sources, in addition to quotes from the play. The play itself does not count as a researched source. These sources much come from an online database such as EBSCO, JSTOR, etc. It is also required that each article or book have an author’s name attached to them, so general quotes from websites such as Wikipedia are not eligible. To be absolutely clear, the following sources ARE NOT permitted for this assignment: .coms, .edus, .nets. orgs. or any general website. Again, your sources must be academic, peer-reviewed level, either from a database like EBSCO or from a credible book.

This is a full research paper. Please treat it as such. When in doubt about a source, check it out with your instructor or an AVC research librarian. Using sources without citation is plagiarism. Plagiarized papers will receive a zero. Most important tip: DON’T PROCRASTINATE!

STEP ONE: All Research (Due by Feb 22 or 23): 25 Points:

On this date you must submit the following:

  1. A correctly formatted Works Cited page listing ALL FIVE sources to be used in your essay, plus the play (most students forget this; don’t),
  2. A list of all quotations to be used from all your sources in your essay, including from the play. These should also include in-text citations listing author, page, etc.

STEP TWO: Complete Final Draft (Due March 5th) 200 Points:

This is a challenging assignment. I always say the same thing to students. Don’t delay. Don’t procrastinate. Don’t get behind. Get out in front of the assignment. Seek help early if you’re stuck.

All my papers require a word count in the upper left-hand header. It should look something like this:
