This assessment addresses the following Subject Learning Outcomes: a) Identify and discuss the fundamental theories including the Yin and Yang theory, Wu Xing theory, Qi theory and Zang Fu theory. b) Describe the functions and generation of qi, blood, body fluids, essence and shen and recognize the relationships amongst the vital substances. c) Identify the physiological functions and characteristics of the Zang Fu and explain the interrelationships amongst the organs. d) Explain the principal causes of disease and identify disease prevention strategies, including diet and lifestyle therapy. Essay topic: Essence, Qi, Blood & Body fluids are the four basic substances of life. Discuss the function of each as well as determine whether they are yin or yang. Explain the origin of each substance, the different types of each & identify the organs that process (manufacture) & store it & how each substance interacts with the other.
