Formal Lab Report guideline
SUBMISSION deadline: 2 weeks from the lab. For every 24 hour late submission we will take off 10 points.
Introduction /Background (25)
:
What is the main objective in this experiment? What methods will be used and why we picked the method (Look at electromagnetic spectrum)? How the data is analyzed?
Name the compounds you synthesized, draw the structure using CHEMDRAW or some other chemical drawing software)
Co2+ and Co3+ complexes. (Describe labile and inert) Overall Reactions for synthesizing the three complexes. Please make sure you have covered the first synthesis as well.
What is IR? Why IR?
Procedure(5):
Third person tense
Concise
Data and discussion (200)
Show IR spectrum of compound a and b. Indicate and assign peaks
Discussion:
Use your data to determine whether they are consistent.
Do they make sense?
What does your IR show? Identify all peaks and especially the groups you are replacing.
Make sure you go over the post lab questions of the 2nd synthesis and IR analysis , as long as we cover all the questions in our discussion paragraph we are fine. PLEASE avoid copying the question prompts .Use them as a guideline for our discussion.
Conclusion(10)
Summary and potential problems encountered? Any suggestion in terms of experimental design?
Reference(10)
At least FOUR references. No random internet source. (Journals and papers are good) Overall format/organization/Language: Proper font and spacing ( Times new roman 12 pt, double or single spaced , page layout: 1 inch margins all around.)All tables/ figures/schemes should systematically labeled and numbered .Proper scientific language is a MUST. (5%).
P.S: WITHOUT CANVAS submission and turnitin scores, submission will NOT be considered as valid submission. Your submission should be in doc, docx., pdf,, txt or xls. Format. Pictures of your report i.e JPEG, TIFF, BMP,GIF,PNG etc. formats will be considered invalid and automatically result in a complete ZERO.
