Summary of Instruction and Activities for the Lesson. ELM 570 Having Objectives and The Learning Goals Discussion(fill in during Topic 2)Activators and summarizers. The strategy is vital before and after a formal learning experience. With activators, I will be able to design an environment that encourages motivationThe visual tools are essential using an interactive whiteboard. Through this, I can display different photos and integrating them with the five senses. In this section, I can use visual learning to assist learners and help a student to find a patternThis strategy involves motivating students to ask questions and investigate on their own. The strategy is important since it will help in influencing the use of creativity and problem-solving skills. This involves equipping students with the necessary skills to identify what information is needed in different assignments.
Differentiation and Accommodations(fill in during Topic 3)I will use several resources, materials, and activities to introduce the topic of the senses. Combining all the learning and teaching resources will ensure that all the students in the class understand the topic. I will call five volunteers at the front of the class and have them demonstrate the use of the five senses using materials and resources I have brought to class, such as videotapes, pictures, and objects. The fun activity will engage the learners. For the second day objective, I can provide pictures for the part of the body for those students with low reading performance levels. I can also request them to point to the part of the body associated with each sense. The third day involves using different objects with different shapes, colors, materials, smells, tastes, and textures. There is also the use of different recordings to determine the sound. This will be important for students with low-level performance. I can also request students who have high parent participation to engage with their parents to identify different objects at home. For students with low parent involvement, I can request them to form groups and engage them in the process while still at school.Providing assignments for them to compare objects. For those with the internet, I can show them how to search online. For students with medium and high parent involvement, I can request them to involve their parents. For those with low parent involvement and no internet, I can instruct them to present the work as a group.I will then use the textbook to introduce the five senses using the fun activity. I will then have the students work in groups and pairs to identify the five senses. I will monitor all the groups, correct them, and make sure they understand the concept of the five senses.
Materials, Resources, and Technology(fill in during Topic 4)
Formative Assessment(fill in during Topic 5)
Summative Assessment(fill in during Topic 5)
Reflection Topic 1: The most important concept so far is having objectives and learning goals. Learning objectives are important since they guide students as they work through the course. The learning objectives also provide an opportunity through which a teacher can assess the learning progress of students (Rebele& Pierre, 2019). Learning objectives are also important as they provide a guideline for reviewing materials. Also, to make learning objective a powerful tool in course learning, teachers should ensure the objectives are actionable and measurable. Another component is engagement. A teacher should create an engaging procedure. This is important since students’ engagement requires them to activate prior knowledge and a summarizing activity. For example, in the lesson plan, Thursday and Friday’s activities involve comparing and classifying objects using only one sense and describing how the five senses work together. These activities are important since they create a platform through which students can engage with their peers and also free to ask any question on the topic. The engagement has shown a positive impact on student development. Research also indicates engaging students in the learning process increases the level of focus and attention (Martin &Bolliger, 2018). Students in an engaging environment are also motivated to put critical thinking skills into use. For example, while using different senses to describe an object, students will have to think critically and integrate different learning. Thus, engaging student helps in promoting meaningful learning experiences. ELM 570 Having Objectives and The Learning Goals DiscussionI can ensure I integrate the learning process in future professional practices. The first approach will be learning more about the topic and identifying some of the objectives that I would like students to accomplish by the end of the lesson. The objectives also create a guideline for me and a road map to evaluate my teaching and student learning progress. The learning standards are important in ensuring that I follow the state and national teaching standards. Lastly is on engagement. In my future professional practices, engagement will play a major role. I will ensure that I regularly engage with students after each lesson. Also, I can provide them with assignments and allow them to work together.ReferencesBakker, S. (2020). Creating Measurable Learning Objectives. Engaging Students: Essays in Music Pedagogy7.Christie, M. C., Genovese, S., & Davidson, A. (2003). A commentary on learning objectives for accounting education programs: The importance of soft skills and technical knowledge. Journal of Accounting Education48, 71-79.
Reflection Topic 2:Critical thinking is vital in student development. The above strategies aim at improving students’ critical thinking and problem-solving. On activator and summarizers, students are able to focus on a goal, problem, and challenges. The strategy helps students to take ownership of what they are learning. Summarizers allows students to draw a conclusion and highlight the key concept that they have learned. Through the approach, students can improve their integration and retention skills. The strategy can also be enhanced by using question categorization brainstorm, which aids in student engagement. On the other hand, visual learning tool helps provide visual information which student can link up in the learning process. Through visual learning tools, students can link real-world physical objects to the five senses. A good example is the use of the five senses dice or charts. Visual learning tools helps in creating a robust and memorable impression and experience. Thus, students can easily remember the content and address any problem they might face in the assignments. In inquiry-based instruction, I can pose thought-provoking questions. Inquiry-based instruction inspires students to think for themselves hence becoming more independent learners. Through this, students are able to improve their problem-solving skills and gain more insights into an academic concept. Lastly is information literacy. In this approach, student improves their skills by identifying necessary information from vast data presented to them.Implementation of this process in the future is critical for improving learning objectives. I can use activators to introduce the student to a topic. In this section, I can use already known concepts in creating a foundation. After introducing the topic, I will employ the use of charts as a visual learning tool. Through charts, I can point out some of the terms and also engage students by asking them questions. The question should be thought-provoking and requiring students to use knowledge from their own experience or other courses. The charts can also contain different information, hence helping me integrate visual learning tools with information literacy strategies.ReferencesChristie, M. C., Genovese, S., & Davidson, A. (2003). Science Standards of Learning for Virginia Public Schools.Van der Lans, R. M., Van de Grift, W. J., & van Veen, K. (2018). (2020). Five big ideas for effective teaching: Connecting mind, brain, and education research to classroom practice. Teachers College Press.
Reflection Topic 3:One of the changes that can occur and need more emphasis is human behavioral change. This change can mostly affect the level of parent involvement. For example, predicting the level of involvement can be hard since working schedules can change. With the changes, a parent will be unavailable to assist the student with the necessary assignment. This could lead to ineffective differentiation. Thus, the unpredictability nature of the human being is one of the main issues that can affect the differentiation strategy. Another issue is based on disruption. For example, by 2019, physical classes had proved to be the best approach in the teaching process. However, the education system proved to be vulnerable to some events. For example, the current issue on covid influenced the adaptation of technology in service provision (Burgess &Sievertsen, 2020). Therefore, physical education was affected. In such a case, any differentiation that involved face-to-face teaching was affected. Students and teachers were forced to adapt to technology. Therefore, there various issues that can affect the education system and rendering differentiation strategy ineffective.A teacher can effectively involve stakeholders in the process. For example, a teacher can communicate with parents or guardians on how to improve participation. Through the approach, a teacher will be able to involve parents in decision-making. This will result ina higher acceptance level as each party is well aware of what they are needed to do. A teacher should also provide details about the importance of parent participation. Through this, parents can be motivated to put more effort. Parents can also learn more about the importance of student engagement and how it can be beneficial in terms of academic performance (McDowall &Schaughency, 2017). Other materials that can be utilized include reading books. A teacher can provide reading materials, especially for students without internet. The approach can be more effective when parents have a higher engagement level.ReferencesBurgess, S., &Sievertsen, H. H. (2020).
