Case Conceptualization

This assignment has two parts:

I. Case Conceptualization

1. Early Experiences – This should reflect David’s history and developmental milestones outlined in the vignette.
2. Underlying Beliefs – What are David’s beliefs about himself and the world?
3. Thinking & Feeling Patterns – Please reference feelings AND thoughts in this section. You should look at what are the quick thoughts that he has and the accompanying feelings that go with these thoughts.
4. Behavior Patterns – These are the behavioral antecedents and consequences. What does David do base on his beliefs, thoughts, and feelings?  

Part 1 should be in outline or bulleted format and not in paragraph format. 

II. Analysis – Respond to the following questions in narrative format:

1.  How would you initially make sense of David and why he is having difficulties?
2. What information would you take into account when trying to understand David? 
3. What do you think might and/or might not work for David in counseling? 

Part 2 should be in narrative paragraph form. 

Purpose: To practice developing a case conceptualization, imperative to the CBT model.

1. Read the vignette of David (PDF pages 5 and 41) Week 3 Case Conceptualization Vignette – David.pdf  
2. Conceptualization – In outline format, complete the case conceptualization on page 42. Consider what was explained in the Friedberg & McClure text on this topic. The format should look as follows for each of the 4 sections:
3. Early Experiences
   1. What are the significant early experiences that may affected David?
      1. Response #1
      1. Response #2
      1. Etc….
4. Analysis – In narrative format, respond to the following questions in approximately 2 pages:
   1. How would you initially make sense of David and why he is having difficulties?
   1. What information would you take into account when trying to understand David?
   1. What do you think might or might not work for David in counseling?

This paper does not need to be in APA format. 

You do not need to include a title page or running head for this paper. Please use the Friedberg and McClure text to help support your work on this assignment. Chapter 2 outlines the different components to consider in the case conceptualization. Please be sure to use in-text citations and a reference page when appropriate.
