Your first essay is due Saturday at midnight Week 7. You are to report on a human rights campaign of your choosing. This week on the forum we will share what human rights campaign we chose. What the goals of this group? Are they effective?
You will prepare a 3-5 page report on an organization that fights for human rights (such as Amnesty International or Human Rights watch.) You will analyze your chosen organization both the human rights perspective(s) that informs the campaign as well as the specific goals, targets, strategies, timelines, and alliances developed in the campaign. You will also reflect on the effectiveness of the campaign. Is the group employing traditional strategies like community organizing and public education? Be specific. Is the campaign effective in achieving its goals? What successes and barriers did campaigners encounter? Do you have any recommendations to make this organization more effective?
Your essay should be 3-5 pages, in MLA format summarizing your research. While all parts of your final project require you to respond in your own words, it is important to substantiate your argument with at least three academic sources, with one reference from your Online Course Resource. These sources can include academic articles from the Berkeley library, websites, and online newspaper or magazine articles (no wikipedia).
