After you have completed the reading and taken some notes on the Merit Rating Techniques, please ask 2 people you know (parents, friends, cousins, uncles, etc.) who have held a full-time job for more than 2 years how they are appraised or evaluated, and how they receive feedback about their performance on the job. You must find 2 people who are evaluated using a Merit Rating Technique (so avoid anyone whose performance is appraised using a narrative technique).
The people you interview may not know that an MBO approach is being used to evaluate them, but after they describe it to you, you will know. For this assignment, tell me who you interviewed, how they are evaluated (in their words) and which Merit Rating Technique (from the book and notes) you think this sounds like. You need to show me that you have read the material and can recognize the evaluation techniques when you hear about them in the “real world”. Be thorough and specific so I can determine how well you actually understand the techniques you are writing about.
NOTE: While I would really like you to interview REAL people in the REAL world, I know that time constraints may make this tough. So, if you can’t find people to interview, you can fake it.
