You should write a 2-3 page paper (no more than 3 pages) that explores the personality characteristics of a chosen brand, product, or public figure (yes, you may talk about people and how they have been branded) and how they reflect elements of your own personality. The objectives of this assignment are to apply what we know about brand personalities, to consider why we identify/have loyalty to certain brands, and to practice writing about persuasion. Some of the MANY personality traits that can be associated with certain brands, products, or public figures around us include, but are not limited to: rugged, reliable, traditional, innovative, exclusive, elite, simple, sleek, controversial, well-rounded, socially conscious, mysterious, delicate, pure, genuine, etc. Keep in mind, the personality of a product can be both good and bad/positive and negative depending on how one interprets it. Be honest about your assessments of the characteristics of these products/brands and subsequently, honest about yourself. Also remember, I am the only person who will read these. Each paper should: Be 2-3 pages Include a detailed intro, body, and conclusion Identify at least 3 distinct personality characteristics that can be connected between the product and yourself and explain the connections Include solid transitions between ideas Be correctly formatted (see syllabus) Not include a works cited page because these are your own reflections Intro- Be attention getting. Introduce the brand/product/figure, give brief background on it/its purpose, share how long you have been familiar with brand/product/figure, include a clear thesis (ie. In this reflection, I will explain the associations I make between the brand personality of ________ and my own personality as a consumer/fan.), and preview main points Body- The following questions help you explain your connections with the brand/product/public figure: What is the characteristic? In your own words, how do you define it? In what way(s) does the product/brand demonstrate this characteristic? Is this trait typically how people perceive the product or is your perspective unique? In what ways do you demonstrate/mirror these characteristics? Are these characteristics you believe you hold, or do others believe them about you? Do these characteristics reflect how you are actually perceived or how you hope/aspire to be perceived by others? Conclusion- Offer any punctuating thoughts about your reflection. Revisit the thesis and main points. Bring your closing thoughts full circle to the ones in the introduction.
