Writing to evaluate

There are lots of ways to organize an evaluative writing project. Think about your audience. They will want to know your criteria for evaluation and they will want you to explain how the thing you are evaluating meets or fails to meet those criteria. In general, then, you will want to introduce your topic and state your purpose. Your evaluation’s introduction should grab your audience’s attention and make your purpose clear. Next, develop and describe your criteria in order to demonstrate a complex evaluation. Finally, use your criteria to evaluate your source. Think in terms of ethos. Will you seem creditable if your evaluation does not include any weaknesses? What if your evaluation finds absolutely nothing of value? This process helps you decide whether the source you’ve chosen will be valuable or detrimental to your research project
