Introduction to Sociocultural Anthropology
PROJECT II: Assignment Sheet
Due May 4th in class, in hard-copy
For PROJECT II, you will be required to gain knowledge of your culture of interest by
first-hand experience whether by talking to a member of that culture or subculture or an
expert, or by participating in an activity that involves your culture of interest.
1) Contact your informants.
a) Make it clear to them that their identities will be kept anonymous and that this
information will only be used for the purposes of this (i.e. your individual) class
project.
b) Make sure you thank your informants.
2) Administer questionnaires to and/or interview your informants asking them your
questions and carefully recording their responses.
3) Write up your final project!
a) Discuss the answers your informants gave to your questions as they relate to
your research.
(1) Do NOT use huge, block quotes.
ii) How do they relate to your thesis?
iii) Do they support it?
iv) Do they cause you to modify or reject it?
(a) Can that be explained?
b) Make sure the style is professional
i) You can expect to use most of the material from Project I if it was
“good”.
ii) You should have perfect citation and bibliographies by this point
iii) It should be well organized and stylistically well written.
iv) max = 4 to 5 pages single-spaced excluding the works cited page
4) Turn in your Project II in hard copy during class on May 4th
a. The paper you turn in should have the following IN THIS ORDER…
(1) A title page with your name, class, section, and a professional sounding
title that describes your paper
(2) The grading rubric sheet for Project II
(3) A 4 to 5 page write-up (single-spaced).
(4) A works cited page
