Topic: Radio issues

Abstract:

Is radio slowly making its way to a decline? With upcoming streaming platforms making it easier to get music and podcasts on demand, radio has competition in a society used to instant gratification for their wants and needs. In the beginning, of my thought process about this topic the first thing I asked myself was when was the last time I got in a car and heard the radio playing? Surprisingly, I couldn’t remember. As a kid I do remember having a stereo in my bedroom that my sister and I would listen to all of the time. Now, most people don’t have radios in their homes but instead use television, speakers, computers and cell phones for what radio used to be used for.

In this paper I will began with a brief history of radio leading up to this current day and age. Then, how radio is the first social medium and how new streaming platforms like podcasts, YouTube, Apple music are somewhat taking over. Especially, with the younger generation now radio doesn’t have as much as an impact as it once did.

Lastly, how the world is changing even more with this pandemic that we are currently living in. A lot of working environments are now done remotely including radio stations. Did COVID 19 have a positive or negative affect on the radio industry? What does this mean for the future of radio?
