In this essay you will provide a background of your community. To do this you should be sure to incorporate the following into your essay:
- Name of city/town/place. Its relative location in the state.
- The demographics of the place Total population, race, gender, median household income, college education, number of people living in poverty, and other important attributes that reflect socioeconomic status.
- A little history of the place. What drives the economy today? Does it have any manufacturing? Or are most people in the community working service-sector jobs? What drove the economy 50 (or 100 or 150) years ago? Provide some historical context for what your community is like today.
- Your initial assessment of how connected your community is. How well does your community share the same values and beliefs? How much solidarity and togetherness do you feel in your community? Are there any fissures in your community that keep people from feeling connected to one another? If so, where are they, or what are the fissures about?
