SYNOPSIS 8: PERSONAL INTERVIEW
Researchers oftentimes conduct their own, primary research, and personal interviews fall under this category. You want to find an expert in the field of your research (e.g. professor, professional in the field). You will want to interview this person after you had a chance to learn more about your topic. You want to approach the person well in advance and make an appointment. Your interview should be at least 30 minutes long and not exceed an hour. Once your appointment approaches, prepare by learning more about the person via the Internet, and by preparing your questions. This doesn’t mean you cannot go off script, but you will not feel lost. Your interviewee will also take you much more serious if you come prepared. Also, make sure you dress appropriately. Formal business attire is in order if you are interviewing a business executive during business hours, while you can dress more casual if you are meeting in a less formal environment. Just remember that these are great networking opportunities, and you only have one chance to make a first impression.Note: You can earn 20 points for this personal interview. However, given the time frame of this course, if you choose to use a published interview conducted by somebody else, then you will receive 10 points for it, but I will accept it. Due: May 6 at the end of the day
