The objective of the project is to inestigate the practical side of scheduling theory. This can be achieved in one of the following ways.
Project ideas:
- Consider the dynamic single machine problem with various number of jobs and an objective of minimizing two measures; for example, the number of tardy jobs as a primary objective and the total tardiness as a secondary objective.Another example, the total earliness and the total tardiness. Compare different dispatching rules in relation to the objective function using experimental data.
- Consider using Risk solver to compare the performance of the three huristics (Palmer, CDC, Dannenbring) for solving the flowshop problem under various problem sizes, ( number of jobs and number of machines) under various processing time distributions.
- Consider optimizing the parameters of the evolutionary solver in solving the single machine the total tardiness problem. Optimize with respect to the efficiency and quality of the answer.
