Write a lab report figuring out what the unknown microorganism is based on the results I have attached about it below. Read the rubric below for details on what to include in the lab report exactly. I HAVE ALSO ATTACHED A LIST GIVEN TO ME ON POSSIBLE MICROORGANISMS IT COULD BE: it will be one of them. There is no specific page length to this assignment all is asked is that all the requirements have been met. (I put on study pool a certain amount of pages because I have too but just ignore it)
RESULTS
In this section, you should describe the unknown microorganism isolated and the accompanying biochemical tests and media.
Describe what it looks like microscopically, including staining techniques.
For biochemical tests, explain why a result is positive or negative (color change, appearance, etc.). Utilize biochemical terms behind the different resulting physical characteristics (things like hydrolysis, pH indicator, mixed acid fermentation, etc. would be helpful phrases to use.)
Absence of potential change is still a result and should be included in the write up. For example, no black precipitate in the TSIA is still a result (albeit negative).
You may use any visual aid to help communicate results (charts, graphs, tables, and pictures, etc). If you decide to use images from the internet, make sure credit is given where due!
Remember, results are always written in past tense!
DISCUSSION
In this section, guide the reader through your thought process and process of elimination used to identify your unknown organism. What is the significance of finding this unknown organism?
What do the results mean? Explain what the results imply as to what your unknown bacteria is or isn’t capable of.
The discussion should include primary and secondary literature sources to provide the reader with evidence for why you think your organism is what it is. At minimum your discussion should incorporate at 3 primary literature sources.
FORMATTING
Calibri or Times New Roman 12 pt. font, double-spaced, 1” margins. INDENT PARAGRAPHS!
Proper use of binomial nomenclature. (Genus is capitalized, species is lower case, and both are italicized. ) New media or reagent that is abbreviated must first be written out in full. Example: Tryptic Soy Agar, then you may abbreviate afterwards (i.e. TSA).
Report should be free of grammatical and spelling errors.
TITLE
Typically, 10-12 words long; includes descriptive words and phrases that capture core message of the lab report
REFERENCES
References should be in CSE formatting
You must include all sources, both scientific literature and any other source from the internet.
All sources should have proper in-text citations in the discussion and a full CSE citation in this reference section.
