Diversity Paper—The Cold War Era
Write a full one page, typed paper with the title of “A Day in the Life of . . . .”
You are to create an American person who would have lived during the 1945-1989 Cold War period. Describe the person by revealing a set of typical experiences or observations that would have been likely for this person, based on the historical context he or she would have known. For authenticity, connect the individual’s life to real-world events.
Your person will be a member of one of the following:
a. a member of the working class, a native-born American
b. a member of the middle class, a native-born American
c. a member of a minority—racial or ethnic, native-born American
Please note: You must select someone who has a frame of reference different from your own.
You will gain historical information from reading your class notes and your text, Ch. 27 & 28, as well as several Internet sites. Note if you use an Internet site, it must be approved by me.
Your work will be evaluated on :
1. imagination 2. historical authenticity 3. writing skills 4. insight about life in the era
The paper should be typed, 10 or 12 pt. font, one and a half line spaced, with 1 inch margins.
You should write a title that represents your scenario.
Your name and date should be typed in the left upper margin.
Your paper is due March 9, 2015.
You should proofread your paper before submitting it. This simple action usually improves grades!
