This assignment gives you the opportunity to think and write like a historian. In other words, you will consider a specific question or problem by analyzing and synthesizing several primary sources. Your paper needs an introduction with a thesis and a conclusion. Make sure you include basic information on the author of each primary source, time of publication, genre, broader historical context of writing, etc. Refer to Liu’s introduction for background and context. I will look for evidence that you have read the introduction!
Cite your texts properly (MLA or Chicago) and attach a bibliography.
Format:
3-4 pages, double-spaced, 12 font, stapled – papers that do not meet these minimum requirements will be returned to you ungraded – NO EXCEPTIONS!
Based on 4-5 primary sources from Xinru Liu’s The Silk Roads, answer one of the following (combined) questions in Liu, pp. 174-5
- Combine 1 and 2
- Combine 3 and 4
- 6
- Combine 8 and 9
- 11
- Combine 14 and 15
- 19
(choose one of the questions on pages 174-175, and write a 3-4 page essay)
