choose 10 paragraphes from the text and write a summary about it with quotations
Include the following elements:
- Part 1:
A rhetorical analysis that contains:- the authors’ name and the title of the text
- the main focus in the text – what this specific textis about (object of study)
- what the authors hoped to accomplish with the text (purpose)
- the group of people that this text is intended for and the ways the authors identify and cater to that audience (audience/relevance)
- the motivation behind creating the text (exigence)
- the big idea the authors develop throughout the text (main idea/new offering)
- abstract concepts this text includes – that can also be found in other texts(themes)
- Part 2:
A linguistic analysis of theuse of clausesby the authors. Be sure to provide:
- a tally of the types of clauses the authors use on at least 5 paragraphsof print in the text (not paragraphs in “Caution,” “Problem-Solving,” “Example,” “Summary,” or “Problem” sections); also include a tally of the number of sentences in which these clauses appear. This means you need to include a count of:
- The number of sentences
- the number of ICs
- the number of specific types of DCs
- Adjective Clause (AdjC)
- Adverb Clause (Adv)
- Noun Clause (NC – used as a S or O)
- examples of at least
- one IC and
- each type of DC used on the page (pages) you used in your tally
- to prove that you know the difference between an IC and a DC as well as the differences between the three types of DCs
- an explanation of whythe authors use
- an IC instead of a DC
- a DC instead of an IC
- including an explanation of why the authors use a specific type of DC (this is an explanation of the function each type of DC has in a sentence).
- a hypothesis about the proportion of IC : DC that the authors use on the page (pages) you analyzed
- include the proportion of AdjC : AdvC : NC that the authors use
- You will need to include the text from your five paragraphs as an appendix at the end of this analytical summary
- Explainhowthe authors present that rhetorical element differentlyin each text.
- You may want to consider placement of that rhetorical element, whether it is stated directly or indirectly, as well as other meaningful differences you find in your analysis
- Provide specific examples or summaries from each text that show how the element is presented differently
- Analyze why you think a particular difference exists in each type of text (genre)
- Explainhowthe authors present that rhetorical element differentlyin each text.
- Part 3:
Contrast object of study OR audience/relevancein the current text with that same rhetorical element in one of our other class texts
