 Point value – 25 points Formatting:

 1.5 or 2.0 line spacing; 1-inch margins; 11 or 12 pt. font (Calibri or Times New Roman preferred)

 VERY IMPORTANT: papers must be submitted in Word format. This will allow the instructors to view and make comments on your writing assignments (most other formats are not visible to the instructor when assignments are submitted in Compass).

 Include your name and the title (Opinion Piece – Final) at the top of the assignment. Also include section (e.g., Part 1, Part 2, and References – if used). Assignment Description For this assignment, there are two parts: Part 1 – Opinion, and Part 2 – Feedback Part 1 – Opinion (400 words; 20 points)

This should be an ORIGINAL paper (not an exact copy of your initial opinion piece), focused on how your opinions about animals have been challenged, reinforced, or changed.

Include the following:

Brief introductory paragraph containing a thesis statement (specifically about the opinion piece)

 Address how your opinions about animals have been challenged, reinforced, or changed in the following areas:

1. Animal use for food purposes

2. Animal use for non-food purposes

3. Your thoughts about how to prioritize human and animal interests and needs

 Concluding paragraph, summarizing your main points (specifically about the opinion piece)  References, if used (references are optional)

Part 2 – Feedback – 5 points The feedback portion should not contain references. Answer the following questions:

 Are there animal-related topics you wish would have been covered?

 What was the most helpful, and the most challenging, part of the course?

 Were you able to identify aspects of writing or the writing process that are strengths and challenges for you? Explain briefly

 Feel free to include any additional feedback you would like to provide (optional) Paper Components

 Part 1: heading (Part 1) and content, addressing the prompts for part 1 – 400 words

 If including references: o References should be cited in text by number within an editorial bracket, also known as a square bracket: [1] for the first reference, [2] for the second reference, etc. o Reference section: number citations in the order they appear (NOT alphabetically) o Individual citation format in the references section should follow APA style
