Agent-based Policy Modeling
Assignment 1

1. Go to the NetLogo Models Library. Open Biology → Wolf Sheep Predation. Save a local copy for you
to manipulate. Run it a few times. Read the “Info” tab.

2. Choose two of the following extensions. Change the code to implement these extensions.
(a) There are a number ways to alter the model so that it will be stable with only wolves and sheep
(no grass). Some will require new elements to be coded in or existing behaviors to be changed.
Can you develop such a version?
(b) Try changing the reproduction rules for example, what would happen if reproduction depended
on energy rather than being determined by a fixed probability?
(c) Can you modify the model so the sheep will flock?
(d) Can you modify the model so that wolves actively chase sheep?

3. Write up: which extensions did you choose? Describe how you changed your code. What was the
implications of your change, in terms of any of the “Things to Notice” or “Things to try” above.
