When writing your TRP, maintain the following perspective: WHAT DOES RESEARCH SHOW ABOUT THE TOPIC? Maintain this focus in the paper, and cite sources whenever you make any kind of claims. You can definitely use information from the main textbook as well. However, do NOT use Nation (2013) as your main go-to secondhand source. In other words, if a study is mentioned in Nation (2013) that you need to cite in your paper, you must first review that study yourself and then cite directly from the original source; i.e. not via Nation (2013).
The approach you should take, rather, is this: “What do published studies show about…?” Remember that the purpose of this assignment is to REVIEW what published studies have reported about the TOPIC and NOT what YOU think, believe, or feel about the topic.
Writing Criteria
- Clear focus in narrowing down the topic
- Sufficient reading
- Comprehension of topic (demonstrated by effective use of contents from the articles)
- Coherent discussion of the topic with a clear focus
- Good use of academic English in the following areas: accurate use of language at all levels ranging from lexical, sentence, paragraph, and entire paper; good organization; proper use of external sources; and accurate use of the APA style.
- Professionalism in produced work (clean document, clear format, consistent use of fonts, etc.)
- Timely completion of work by due date
Other Requirements
- Clear title for the paper that shows the focus of the paper
- Approximately 12~15 double-spaced pages (3000~3750 words) in length NOT including the references
- References: Include a list of minimum of TEN references at the end of your paper including ALL & ONLY the studies that you refer to in your paper. Unless a study is out of print or simply not available, avoid citing/quoting a study via another study (i.e. second-hand borrowing).
- Documentation Style: Use the APA style for references and other in-text citations.
