Why did the United Kingdom choose to EU but France didn’t choose to opt out?

Both the United Kingdom and France have been members of the European

Union for over four decades, and in both countries anti-European political

parties that campaign for leaving the EU have existed for some time; indeed,

France’s anti-EU party, the National Front, is older and more popular than

Britain’s UKIP. Explain why of the two countries, only the United Kingdom has

voted to leave the European Union.

Your paper should cite at least six sources. You may cite the textbook, assigned readings

and lectures, but they will not count toward your six required citations. Of your six sources, a

minimum of four must be scholarly or academic sources and two may be journalistic sources

from reputable outlets. By scholarly sources I mean books or research articles.

Your paper should be no shorter than 6 full (double spaced) pages and no longer

than 8 pages.
