You are not allowed to copy/paste from an online source. You must include a Citation Page, which lists all the resources used to complete this homework. The use of wiki pages incurs an automatic 10-point reduction.
For your last assignment, you are going to identify some of the many people who represent you in local government. You will need to search the Internet for the requested information.
Writing requirements
The assignment must be typed, double-spaced, 12 point Times New Roman, 1” margins all the way round and page numbers. Page one begins on the page where you have writing. You may use bullet points corresponding to the 11 items required under the Who Represents Me? section below. However, you must first include an introduction paragraph and conclude with a conclusion paragraph that explains what you learned and how you feel about the people you researched. This section is worth up to 2.5 points.
In your bulleted data, be sure to include information on the people who represent you (to earn an average (C) grade, you would need to include name, position and political party; however, to earn an exceptional (A) grade, you will need to include a lot of information on your representatives. See below). This section is worth up to 20 points.
Be sure to include 2-3 sentences for each person that include the following information (questions 3, 5, 8, 9):
- Professional background (education, training, military service, government service);
- Political beliefs (in addition to their political party affiliation note any important positions they have publically taken on various political issues); and
- Anything else they are known for having done. Focus on what you think is important, as this is an assignment to help you learn about the people who represent you!
You must have at least five citations for this assignment. The citation page is the final page, is separate from the others, and must be in Chicago Manual Style. This section is worth up to 2.5 points.
Although you are responding to bulleted questions, this assignment requires academic writing. If you do not know what academic writing is, please look at the helpful documents on Canvas that will point out all the do’s and don’ts of writing. The assignment must have complete sentences and paragraphs and be free from grammatical and spelling errors. Example: “My zip code is 75035.”
While you may discuss the assignment with others in the class, your writing must be your own ideas expressed in your own words. Academic dishonesty will be dealt with severely – if you are unsure about what constitutes academic dishonesty, read over the syllabus or discuss the issue with me before you turn in this assignment.
Please make sure to write enough detail to explain yourself in full. Do not use graphs, charts, or etc. (if I have to guess at what you mean, then you will get a 0). Correct English, grammar, spelling, and punctuation is expected. Students should write only in complete sentences. Please limit your use of “I”, “my”, “me”. You should never use “we,” “us” or “our” as this suggests collusion. Please remember that paragraphs consist of three or more complete sentences.
Your assignment is due through Canvas. No work will be accepted after midnight on the due date listed on the Tentative Course Calendar. That is midnight based on the Canvas clock, not yours. If you miss the deadline, do not email me. This assignment is worth 25 points.
