Help with Journal 3 Due THIS WEDNESDAY (4/8) before class

Dear students,

For help picking a topic for Journal 3, I suggest one of the following:

1) Search gov/home/thomas.php”>http://thomas.loc.gov/home/thomas.php

Choose an issue that impacts you. Use phrases like: immigration, education, community college, health care, veterans etc.

Click on a few of the recent proposals (You will click on the short-tile like, H.R. 810 or S.AMDT.432, that appears right after the number (1., 2., 3., etc.). Once you click on the title, go to “CRS Summary” to read a brief overview. You may have to do some searching to find a bill you can personally connect to. Once you do, briefly summarize (here’s where you provide your source/link to the bill) and explain why you chose this bill and how it impacts you.

2) Search the White House websitehttps://www.whitehouse.gov/issues/immigration

The above links you to the administration’s position on immigration but if you go to ISSUES at the top of the page, you can find other topics to write on. Choose one or two issues you can connect to/reflect on and briefly summarize them (providing this page as a source) and then explain your connection to the issue(s) you chose.

3) Students who want to/plan on transferring to a Cal State might want to research SB 1440. This is a California law that was passed in 2010 that encouraged collaboration between community colleges and Cal State so that students who want to transfer have an easier time doing so. Here is a link to a website that clearly explains the benefits of the law: http://www.sb1440.org/

If you want to write about this law, briefly summarize it (and cite the SB1440 site or any other relevant sources) and then reflect on how it will benefit you.
