Then watch the film White Like Me by Tim Wise and respond to the following questions.
(I tried to find a free version of the movie online everywhere but I couldn’t find it, you might be able to just google a summary of it)
- According to Tim Wise’s film White Like Me, how does privilege affect both those who have it and those who do not? Explain and offer examples from the film.
- How does privilege, or a lack of privilege, affect your life?
- Privilege is not something someone should feel guilty for having. However, it does necessitate acknowledgement. According to Tim Wise Americans living today are not responsible for the creation of systems of inequality, of privilege, of oppression, and of marginalization. Americans simply inherit the legacy of our country’s past. What is one thing you think people who possess privilege should do to to be sensitive to those who might lack their same privilege on a personal level? How about on a national level? Explain your ideas in each instance pulling from examples from our textbook chapters 1-3, the film, or outside research.
I attached the power points from chapters 1-3 so you can use vocabulary words and references.
