We can apply the code of Ethics to our assignments by staying true to our own moral code of decency.

The PMBOK code of ethics, is just simple courtesy and respect for others, the code of ethics speaks to “When interacting with any stakeholder, practitioners should be committed too honest, responsible, fair practices and respectful dealings.” (1.1 The Purpose of the PMBOK Guide) They make it so simple it begs the question why is this so difficult?  The reason it is an accepted practice worldwide is because this is how we should be in everything we do.  The temptations of unearned gain and the loss of opportunities are more to the way people think.  I follow a biblical saying “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be faithful with much.” (Luke 16:10.)  A simple quote, but adds up to integrity, honesty, fairness, respect.  This is not new, but it is in line with PMBOK code of ethics.  We must adopt an attitude that while we are stewards over someone else’s property we must care for it as if it were our own.

Our own  moral code of ethics should stop us from taking advantage of a situation, it should compel us to do the right thing at all times.  No matter how much injustice you think has been done to you, it does not give us the right to violate our own code of ethics and allow temptation to take us to a place we won’t be able to come back from, without a great deal of embarrassment and trouble.  Example: The Enron case.  Professionals who have fallen because they put their code of ethics in a drawer and allowed their greed to take over.  Or who’s temptations and frustrations begin to create a place of opportunity that has driven them to the point of no return.  When we sell out to our own integrity there is a very high price to pay……  John F Kennedy quoted Luke again in (Luke 12:48) “For those to whom much is given, much is required.” In my book a man or women of integrity is of great value to everyone and leads by example.
