Physiology is defined as the branch of biology that deals with the normal functions of living organisms and their parts.
For this “Reading as a Writer” Response #5, imagine sitting in a restaurant (fancy or otherwise) and having a conversation with Brillat Savarin and write what your answers may be, in the process of such imaginary conversation, to the following questions:
What do you think is the meaning of an aphorism? Look up a definition of aphorism and analyze it.
What general themes (big ideas) can you identify in Brillat Savarin’s aphorisms?
Why does the author choose to focus his aphorisms on these general themes (big ideas)? What are these themes? Do you see a pattern?
What do his aphorisms suggest about his view of food, culture, and hospitality? How do they reflect on your view of food, culture, and hospitality?
What aphorisms stood out to you the most and why? Explain and use textual evidence (quotations) to support and illustrate your response.
