My name is Haddy Badjie, came here as an Asylum, lost my mother at 14, was forced to get married at 16 escaped to come here to complete my education. Had a baby in May 2020, travelled to a village in Senegal on September to care for my sick sister who eventually passed away. No internet access at the village i was staying so i couldnt complete my finacial aid application by the march 2nd deadline
Came back home on march 18th, became homeless and luckily found a place on may 1st. I agreed to start paying rent once i receive my state and federal aid not knowing that i was too late.
I really need the state grant to help with housing in order to complete my remaining 2 years of college
Worked so hard to get here, without the state grant i wont be able to go to school this year. I didnt know about the march 2nd deadline until after i filled out the application and got my funds
