Read Chapters 14-15 & Funders Roundtable III (Karsh & Fox)
The text this week discusses the importance of deciding what to include and what not to include, in your grant proposal. There is a lot of discussion centered around what funders prefer and what they don’t.
This week I want you to watch Kara Logan Berlin’s talk titled “How to be a Better Fundraiser.”:How to be a better fundraiser | Kara Logan Berlin | TEDxSantaClaraUniversity (Links to an external site.)
In her talk, she discusses how to deliver a pitch to a potential funder, and what you should include versus what you shouldn’t. For your discussion board post, I want you to compare the idea of an in-person financial pitch to a funder versus a grant proposal. How would your pitch and proposal be similar, but where do the contents start to differ?
*****Since this is an video assignment, I would need a script at least 300 words for this assignment, so I can film it later!******
Responses:
For this week we will be changing the format in which you do your initial post discussion and your response posts. Instead of written responses, you will be required to film a video response (using Loom) to both the initial discussion board question, and then supply video (Loom) responses to your peers’ posts.
You are required to film your post and responses utilizing Loom. For instructions on how to do so, follow this link: https://support.loom.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002236078-Record-a-presentation-with-Loom- (Links to an external site.)
Your Initial Discussion Board Post will still be due by Friday, February 14, at 11:59 pm. Your initial response must be 2-4 minutes long, and you are still encouraged to back up your comments with citations from the book or articles you have read. I do not just want your opinions, but I want you to back it up with research demonstrating you are reading the book and outside sources.
Your Response Posts are due by Sunday, February 16, at 11:59 pm. These will also need to be in the Loom format, and will need to be from 1-2 minutes long. I expect you to have positive conversations and do more than say you like their post. Ask questions, contribute to the ongoing conversation, etc. Remember to use citations on DB as well. Give each other constructive feedback that could aid each of you in your careers and also cite resources.
Discussions are the place to gain a deeper understanding of the material, so please embrace this process.
I really look forward to seeing your posts this week.
