· Select a product you recently purchased and consider what channels were available for the marketing and purchase of this product. Based on the distribution channel through which you purchased the product, discuss how the value chain was affected by that channel of distribution.

Based on my recent purchase of a charger for my phone, I identified two channels for the product:

Direct selling includes sales made through the party plan, one-on-one demonstrations, personal contact arrangements as well as internet sales. I purchased the charger from Apple website, which can be considered a direct sales by the company. This relates to the business relationship between Apple and I, which does not involve the interference of others.

Selling Through Intermediaries-A marketing channel where intermediaries such as wholesalers and retailers are utilized to make a product available to the customer is called an indirect channel. I understand that some consumer electronics stores do sell iPhone accessories to customers. These intermediaries will represent another channel for Apple in advancing its marketing performance.

The value chain being used by Apple can have impact on the perception of consumers as regards to the value. Apple uses high level customer service quality when buying from its stores, which are often not reciprocated when buying from intermediaries.

There are several different types of channels for distribution of a variety of ads, from Print, to online channels, and even to advertisements on radio and on Television. The one that I’d like to focus on would be the television advertisments. I noticed that my intake of soda’s has gone up over the summer. I’m not sure if this is normal or not but I’m seeing a lot more soda advertisements on tv and I believe it is causing me to choose soda instead of water. Knowing that I should be drinking more water. Television as a distribution channel is one of the most expensive channels to- date but also most effective. I think about things such as when people run for president of the united states. The live debates on television are very important to the campaigns. I also think of the showing of public opinion. After the documentary came out about the pedifile R Kelly it seems like the whole world turned against him.
