Week 2 Assignment: Kansas City Governing Policies
For this assignment, please compare and contrast governing practices of Kansas City and how it compared to Federal practices. This can be as broad, or as narrow as you want. An easy starting place, would be to think about how Prohibition (the Volstead Act) was enforced by the Federal government, vs. how it was enforced in Kansas City. Other topics might include Women’s Right To Vote (19th Amendment), other Voting policies, Worker’s Rights, Gambling etc…
Whichever topic you take, I would also consider the benefits of a narrow approach. If you choose prohibition, consider focusing on one component of it – how liquor was sold, how liquor was made, how liquor was acquired, etc.. Some of these topics can be so broad, that it would take a very long time to fully discuss them. I don’t want you to spend a VERY long time doing this. I would prefer a succinct discussion about a single component in these issues.
I am most interest in seeing what you’ve researched, and what parts of Kansas City’s governing practices interest you. It was such a corrupt place, almost everything (at times) seemed to operate in the opposite way of the Federal Government.
