Part One: Culture Discussion and Methods Exercise

In total, the response to this part of the discussion should be at least 100 words.

Based on the information covered in Week 1 Navigation andWeek 2 Navigation, briefly discuss: 

First, consider culture. How can we recognize American culture? What does it look like? 

Can you think about any specific examples of cultural norms? Signifying practices?

Second, please take part in this mini-ethnography exercise: 

The main idea behind ethnography is to observe a social setting and take note of what it looks like. How are people dressed? How do they interact? Do they have any uniquenorms regarding interaction and self-expression?

For this portion, take a look at a video of San Diego Comic Con and let me know what subcultural facets you notice.

Part Two: Link Your Topic to Course Materials

Please respond in about 100 words. In terms of the topic that you are considering for your final paper, think about how you can link this to ideas of culture. What cultural concepts seem relevant in the broad scope of your topic? What do they look like? How do they shape your topic?

Further, if you were to brainstorm a research project to better understand your topic, what method(s) would you use? Why? Consider the benefits and drawbacks of the method(s) in your answer.
