WCUI Medical Terminology Thyroid Gland Conditions Discussion

Directions: For each medical term listed below, write two sentences. An example has been done for you below (note the change in form from emaciation to emaciated when used in the sentence).

  • The first sentence should be spoken by a health care professional to another health care professional, using the medical term correctly. Note: You may change the form of the word if needed.
  • The second sentence should be an explanation of the medical term (not using the term itself) as if you are a health care professional explaining the term to a patient who has asked what it means.

Example:

Emaciation

  1. The patient appeared to be emaciated: She was thin to the point where the outline of her bones could be seen through her skin.
  2. It means extreme, unusual thinness; it is beyond what would be considered “normal.”
