Individualized Education Program (IEP) Case Study Project Part I
For this course, you complete an IEP Case Study Project based on the information provided. You follow two students, Ryan and Samantha, throughout this course and examine the referral process, the eligibility requirements, and the importance of using research-based interventions based on their needs. Assuming the perspective of a special educator, you examine your role and responsibility in examining, understanding, and using the student profile information, data, and other pertinent information during the IEP process.
For this Assignment, you examine Ryan’s story and explore various research-based intervention strategies in order to determine which would be most effective for his learning needs.
To Prepare:
- Review the video The IEP Process: Pre-Referral and Referral and use the Pre-Referral and Referral Note-Taking Template from the Learning Resources to take notes. As you review, focus on the research-based intervention strategies used for Ryan. Think about Ryan’s strengths and challenges that affect his learning. Do not submit the template.
- Review Chapter 6 in the Pierangelo course text and choose three of the following research-based intervention strategies:
- Team meeting with teachers
- Family interview
- Medical exam
- Classroom management techniques
Assignment (4–5 pages):
Submit an analysis of Ryan’s case, including the strengths and challenges that affect his learning; important information shared by his family; and three appropriate, research-based intervention strategies. Be sure to include an explanation of the following:
- Information his family provided that you feel is important to understanding and supporting Ryan’s learning needs
- Ryan’s strengths and challenges
- Three appropriate research-based intervention strategies and how they may be beneficial to Ryan
Note: Select strategies not already seen in this week’s video.
