Walden University Functions of Behavior Discussion

We all do things for a reason. Drinking coffee in the morning keeps you alert and focused as you start your day. Being sociable and congenial to those around you helps establish a positive social environment and reduces the potential for stress and conflict. A person’s day is often filled with behaviors that increase happiness or reduce stress. This is equally true of individuals with disabilities or learning issues. In order to develop techniques to help these individuals, it is critical to first identify the function of the behavior in achieving a consequence for the individual.

In this Discussion, you will identify the functions of behavior and examine the ethical importance of this identification process.

To prepare:

  • Review the readings from this week’s Learning Resources and the required media for this week to gain an understanding of the functions of behavior. Note: It is critical for you to review all media for this week prior to completing this Discussion

Post and identify the functions of behavior. Explain further why you believe identifying the functions of behavior is considered ethical practice.

Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to the Learning Resources and identify current relevant literature to support your work.
