Walden University Evidence Based Medicine Discussion

I need a response to the post below. Please provide at least 3 reference in APA format. Thank you!

According to Siminoff (2013), Evidence-based medicine and patient-centered medicine are both supported among clinicians. These paradigms can appear to be simultaneously exclusive and challenging to integrate at times. It can be much more difficult when trying to incorporate the patient’s family members’ wishes (Siminoff, 2013).A patient wife preferred that CNA do not disturb or wake her husband up two hours early in the morning for routine care and breakfast. The patient was more relaxed and not anxious from waking so early in the morning. The patient started being more compliant with care and medication regime. The value is that the patient will benefit from taking all the medication that was prescribed to him. In addition, the patient was getting more sleep and the patient seemed happier along with his wife. As a part of the healthcare team, I feel great we were able to achieve this goal. As a result of this experience, I believe that my patient’s values, preferences, and needs were met that made his and his wife’s experience so much better. According to ANA (2019), family members are familiar with the patient and can lend valuable advice and help—if we listen to and engage them; at its foundation, patient- and family-centered care promotes mutual respect for partnerships among healthcare providers, patients, and their families.

According to Ottawa Hospital Research Institute (2019), patient decision aids are resources that assist individuals in making decisions by stating the decision that must be taken, offering information about the possibilities and outcomes, and expressing personal values. They’re meant to supplement, not replace, the advice of a medical professional. I found this tool to be informative and useful. Especially the decision aid summary on “Advance Care Planning: Should I revive CPR and life support?”. My family and I had a hard time discussing this when it came to my father. Using this tool would have been extremely beneficial during that unfortunate time. I’m going to continue to use this resource because it’s extremely beneficial and informative.
