Government and Assimilation & Comparative Empires

Below are two separate discussion questions, choose ONE and discuss, must be a minimum of 75 words.

Government and Assimilation

The long-term success of a widespread empire is often due to the relationship between conquered peoples and their imperial overlords. How did Chinese, Indian, and Mongol authorities treat their conquered peoples? What was the process of assimilation and how did that affect the longevity of their empires? What seems to be the most balanced approach to ruling a diverse population?

You should talk about the condition of assimilation in all three empires: Chinese, Indian, and Mongol.

Comparative Empires

How does the Maya Empire compare to other empires we’ve encountered? Let’s consider the systems of knowledge that we know existed in the Maya civilization, from architecture to math, calendars, trade, administration, law, religion, and city-states. What other historical empire would you compare the Maya to and why? You may use Indian, Chinese, or Mongolian Empires from this module and you may reach into older modules as well for your comparison (Greece, Rome, Babylon, etc), so long as you explain why you find your specific empire to compare most with the Mayas. Let’s use examples.

This is an open-ended question with many answers. Please formulate your answer with specific examples from the reading and a clear explanation.
