Self-esteem discussion 2 and 3    Course Text: Required: McKay, M., & Fanning, P. (2016). Self Esteem: A proven program of cognitive techniques for assessing, improving, and maintaining your self-esteem (4th ed.). Oakland, CA: New Harbinger Publications, Inc. ISBN 1-62625-393-3

1. Respond to the following question. Be sure to address your peer by name when you make your response.

The authors discuss the fact that we sometimes second guess ourselves because our ” Pathological Critic” might be telling us that we are not as good as other people.

Reflect on the FSI Case Study Family and describe how you would work with any one of the three of them on this issue.   How might they be second guessing themself?   What messages might they be receiving from their pathological inner critic in addition to external forces (family, friends, classmates, outside institutions, etc.)

2. Respond to the following question.

The authors suggest that our “Pathological Critic” often times causes us to have “unrealistic” expectations of who we really are. They suggest that the “Critic” does it on purpose.

Review all of the material in this lesson (chapter reading, videos, etc.).

Summarize what you found to be the most significant to you and how you can use the materials when working with the FSI family.
