This Reading Response should consist of 2 things:
1) a 400-500 word summary of the major points of the assigned reading/video (Chapter 2 of Alexander called “The Lockdown” and the NPR podcast). Remember that you need 400-500 words minimally that summarizes both the reading and the video)
2) your academic response (an additional 300-400 words) to it* (you could consider links to racism, class, and the implications for prisoners shaped by the 13th amendment.)
An academic response is not how you feel about it but what you may critically and professionally state about it. For example, your response might include how well you think the arguments were made and why, what you think might be missing or downplayed and what that might add, what you think the strongest argument is, how the material relates to current trends, how you think it could impact practice or research.
