Your final portfolio will include:
1. Two substantial revisions (40%). Choose your fairy tale (already revised this semester) and one of your other essays and revise them. “Substantial” means just that—evidence of revision (not simply correcting the errors). Take this chance to make some changes, to see where it takes your writing.
What would you do with it if no grade was attached? What would you do if there were no rules attached? What could you create? Think outside the box.
You can be as creative as you want. What would you do differently…now? Curious? Try something and see what happens. Is the best frame for the work off the page? Think about everything at your disposal.
Play. Aim big. Even a failure gives you something to write about. I will not be “grading” the revisions. Your grade for this section is earned by your attempt. (Did you try something new?)
This is your chance to take a risk—full points if you just try something. We learn in the process of trial and error and reflection.
2. A brief, reflective essay (50%) No word count. You decide when the essay is complete. Discuss your writing using the two revised works as a focus. You will use the two works as your support; you do not have to quote them, but you should refer to them in your essay.
Discuss:
-
- what your writings this semester show about you as a writer;
- your revisions—the changes you made throughout the drafts, and what you think about those changes and the process of writing;
- your strengths and weaknesses as a writer;
- Your plans for continuing growth (literally, what do you plan to work on next?);
- Nothing else. (Do not mention the class, books, course, or me.) It’s all about you.
3. Use the following order/sections (10%):
-
- Lead with a title page: name, class, and short table of contents (no page numbers, just sections).
- Reflective Essay.
- Final draft of your first revision.
- Final draft of your second revision.
Note: If a physical copy, please do not submit a stack of loose papers. Place them in an envelope or notebook or staple them or use a binderclip, or hairclip. Anything but a stack of loose papers.
