Does use of computer programs impact competency requirements to practice engineering? Explore examples where use of engineering software was responsible for infrastructure failures (i.e. Hartford Civic Center, Miami pedestrian bridge collapse, CTV Building collapse) Please read and follow the instructions to write 1500 words about the topic provided in instructions (Does use of computer programs impact competency

requirements to practice engineering?) please include study case and use ASCE Code of Ethics

Approximately 1500 words (5 pages)

You have flexibility in choosing your case study but it should be different from one that you have presented to the class in your team presentation. Ideally, the case has clear ethical issues where different canons of the ASCE code of Ethics apply, making it easy for you to discuss the issues.

A draft must be peer-reviewed by somebody on your team or perhaps a roommate. Check for spelling, grammar, clarity, missing details. It’s good professional habit to have somebody check your work before submitting for final evaluation (homework, bids, calculations, technical drawings).

Your essay should discuss which ASCE stakeholders are relevant, and work to resolve the case using relevant ethical theories and problem solving techniques covered in the textbook. Perfect spelling, good grammar, clarity of facts describing the case, clearly identifying the ethical or legal problem(s), and clarity of arguments in resolving the case make for a good essay. Using outside sources of information that you find on-line is also expected in order to provide context and detail to better understand the case facts, terminology, concepts, the law, etc.. We will use the APA standard citation format for in text citations and references. I’ll provide a simple summary of common formats.
