USF International Relations Liberalism Realism Social Constructivism Discussion

After reading and understanding the assigned chapters (Chapters 6-9), answer two of the following questions. Then, reply to three classmates’ threads.

Questions:

  1. What are the main principles of realism and liberalism and how do they differ from neo-realism (defensive and offensive realism) and neo-liberalism ? 
  2. What are the main differences between (neo)realism and (neo)liberalism? How does each of them explain US foreign policy
  3. Which of the aforementioned theories provides the best explanation of US foreign policy? Why is that the case? Explain by using foreign policy cases and principles of the selected theory.
  4. What are the main principles of Marxism and how does it explain international relations? What are some different schools of Marxism? Discuss their similarities and differences.
  5. What is the World System theory and how does it explain the structure of the international system and actions of states? How would it explain US foreign policy
  6. What are the main principles of Social Constructivism, and how does the theory explain international relations? How does Social Constuctivism explain power and the formation of international institutions?
