Your essay should be at minimum 1,500 words long. In determining the word total, I will only count the main body of your essay, not the title page, bibliography, or footnotes.
Submit the file containing your essay in one of these file formats: pdf, doc, docx. Submit the file on this page by clicking on the “Submit” button at the top of this page. Papers not submitted on this page will NOT be accepted and the paper will receive a zero for the assignment.
You are far too smart to submit your essay at the last minute and so risk not submitting it in time.
In your essay, you must take a position and argue your position or thesis on the question posed. Arguing a position means supporting your thesis by drawing on the assigned textbook and at least TWO of the primary sources assigned up to and including the week when the essay is due. Then citing what you’ve borrowed or used.
- The American melting pot has been an image of hope and inclusion for more than a century. Using at least two of the primary sources assigned in our course, discuss how that image of a harmonious blending of immigrants and non-immigrants is true, false, or both in the period from from 1950 to 2000 in the U.S. This is a big question: be sure to significantly use at least two of our assigned primary sources in crafting your answer. Using more of them is better.
- Immense political changes affected the U.S. from 1950 to 2000 c.e. First, what were the most important U.S. political trends and changes in this period, why were these significant, and what was their impact in the short and long term on the average U.S. citizen? Include at least the significant use of two primary sources that are given in the modules for the time period of this question.
- Technology played a huge role in the creation of the US into a modern nation. America, in particular, had a genius for devising labor-saving devices. Beginning in 1900 and ending in 1960, discuss the three most pivotal inventions that changed U.S. history, and the most important effects they had on the U.S. Be specific, as always. Be sure to note the social and economic impact of each invention or discovery. Include at least the significant use of two primary sources that are given in the modules for the time period of this question.
- Consider this claim: “In the period from 1919 to 1972, women gained almost complete equality with men.” Do you agree? Include at least the significant significant use of at least two primary sources that are given in the modules for the time period of this question. Finally, for the sake of fairness, be sure to answer the chief criticisms or counterclaims that can be made against your thesis.
